Friday Favorites: Ten Songs I'll Listen to the Rest of My Life

I'm linking up with Mary and Mrs. K for this special edition of Friday Favorites!

First of all, I will have you know that I made a new playlist in iTunes to try to figure this list out, and when I went through and tried to pretty selectively make the list, I had 21 songs in it. Ten songs is so few!

Also, if I were to come up with a list of my ten current favorite songs, it would be different. Does that make sense to anyone besides me?

But based on what songs I've listened to over and over and still haven't gotten tired of, which songs I sit down and turn on immediately when I need some music, and which songs have lasted as favorites in my mind even over a few years, these are my picks (not necessarily in this order--way too hard):

This is not to say I am some ginormous fan of the movie, but I am a huge fan of this song. Gorgeousness. And I've played it over and over and over. I found it about a year ago on a random Youtube video that featured it, and I had to buy it.

I discovered Andrea Bocelli when he sang this song for the Olympics however many years ago (what, like 2008?) and this is my absolute favorite song of his. I don't care that part of it is in a language I can't understand--I just love it so much. Even had it as a ringtone once. ;)

I honestly cannot remember how I found Mindy Smith and this song. Probably Pandora, and about five years ago. This is honestly one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. And sad, which I happen to like. ;)

A similarly sad yet beautiful song. I found this one probably six or eight years ago (that's just insane) and will always love it. And how insanely beautiful is her voice??

Remember Celtic Woman? They're good, but Chloe is the best. :) I bought her CD (again, probably six or eight years ago) and this is my favorite. It's almost tied with her song "Someday" though.

There's a good chance none of you have heard of this awesome artist (and this song is not to be confused with "Power of the Cross" by the Gettys.) I was actually present at the recording of this video I've linked (sorry it's not the best recording), where she won the conference's singing contest. And she won the songwriting contest with this song the year before. And her voice is as amazing as the song.

I first discovered Demi Lovato when she sang the song on an episode of America's Got Talent around the time the song debuted. She sang her guts out, and I thought, Who is this? I've loved her voice ever since, but this is my most enduring favorite of hers.

Taylor Swift won me over with her debuting performance of "Back to December" at whichever awards show that was back in like 2010. (I love how I have all these stories of "this performance made me love this person, and this performance made me love this person" but it's true!) There are a few songs of hers I come back to over and over (and hey, it's another sad one! See a trend yet?) and this one has proven to be my most lasting favorite (with some close runners-up that might need a post of their own).

I heard this song on the radio back when I was like 15, just one time, and always remembered it but never heard it played again and somehow couldn't find it. When my husband and I started dating several years later, I mentioned it to him and he found it online for me--now it's totally our Christmas song. It's just so happy. :)

10) "Fly Away with Me" by my husband :)

It's a screenshot from a hidden camera's video, so I do apologize for the glaring lines...

So there's not a link to this song, and I'm sorry about that, but here's a picture to make up for it, right? This is the song my husband wrote and then recorded, enlisting the help of one of our friends for piano accompaniment, and then proposed to me while it played. While we danced to it. Yeah, he's pretty awesome. And I'll just say this: he sounds kinda like Josh Groban. :D

I so need to list at least five more. Ten would be good. Sooo many others need to be on here, but ah well. And is it crazy that this topic made me kinda want to do "10 Songs I Wouldn't Mind Not Hearing Again for the Rest of My Life"? I think I might make some people mad with that one though. ;)

I know some of these may seem pretty random, but do you happen to share any of them? Have you ever heard of Shelly E. Johnson? Let me know if you do this list too, and don't forget to link up with I am Mrs. K!

  2. If I made such a list, it would probably be half Norah Jones songs ;-) That last one on your list is just perfect! My husband proposed with a song too (rewrote the lyrics), and then wrote another song during our engagement that he surprised me with at our wedding reception. He'd had a friend sing and record it. He hasn't written another song since.

    1. Wow, that is so sweet, and so funny that he did that too! My husband hasn't written another since either--sounds like they have a lot in common. :) And I realized afterward that this list is all slow songs... Whoops. Don't know what that says about me, because I'm sure most of the ones that didn't make the final list were faster songs. I'd love to read your list too, even if it is half her songs! ;)

I'd have to agree on the Skyscraper by Demi Lovato behalf.
As for most of the rest, I don't know them. Looks like I have some new songs to look up!!

    1. Aw, yeah, he's pretty awesome. :D It's funny, these ten turned out to be such calm, slow songs. If I'd done ten more it would have included such a wider range of music. I guess my classics are the soothing ones. Weird! Thanks for stopping by, honey! :)
