Unfiltered Summertime

The week is finally here--we move this weekend! Crazy, crazy. I have a lot to do by then. ;) But for now...

I may be moving, but the farm where I grew up will always be home too. I don't know if a deep attachment to one's state is just a West Virginia thing, or if everybody does that, but I do feel like we country people tend to get the most attached of all. I grew up on a cattle farm--hearing cows in the middle of the night is just part of life to me, and actually quite pleasant. And the crickets. Without a light to dim the starts, and the best sunsets you'll ever see, every single evening.

I absolutely cannot tell you how much I love this place that I grew up--I am so excited about where we're headed next, but I will certainly miss this place. I am so, so grateful for my family, for my home, and that my Daddy decided to be a farmer--I cannot imagine growing up anywhere else. To me, truly the most beautiful place in the most beautiful state (Webster Springs takes #2 ;).

So for today's Grateful Heart Monday, I wanted to share some pictures of this place, filtered in nothing but the sunset. Pictures just can't capture it all, but my iPhone and I did our best.

  1. What gorgeous pictures! All of this right outside your doorstep.....beautiful! My mom grew up in Milwaukee and has not lived there in decades but to this day she still calls it home. Thinking of you as you move...sending good wishes your way!

  2. Oh, how gorgeous. And happy moving week! I live in a very small, country town (minus the fact that there's a university smack in the middle of it-but don't let that sway you--still a very small town). I was out for a run yesterday and ran past a cornfield and just thought of how that family must feel about their land. I swear you're right--country people do get the most attached of all, you become one with your space. You all take pride in your homes and in your land and it's something we all could learn from. Best of luck, love!

  4. (Stopping by from the Grateful Heart link-up) What a beautiful place to grow up! Reading you talk about the cows and crickets at night painted a nice picture... those sounds are so soothing. Good luck with the move!

  6. I'm originally from West Virginia too (I now live in Atlanta, Ga) and I totally know what you mean about having a deep connection to the state. I don't know what it is but that place always feels like home. Sometimes I crave a return visit and it's good to get away from the big city and unwind on my parent's farm for a few days. Hoping to get back up there in November.
